Elwell Construction Introduce
For residents of Erie, Pennsylvania, a home's exterior protection is not a luxury—it's an essential investment. Elwell Construction, a local roofing contractor, offers services designed to protect and enhance your property from the ever-changing Pennsylvania weather. The company provides crucial home services, including roof installation, re-roofing, and targeted roof repair for storm and wind damage. In addition to their roofing expertise, they also handle siding, soffit, and fascia, ensuring a cohesive and durable exterior for your home. While the quality of the finished product is a key part of their business, it is important to understand the full customer experience, as documented in public feedback, to make an informed decision about your home project.
The core of any roofing contractor's work is the finished roof, and in this regard, Elwell Construction has a track record of delivering a quality product. According to customer reviews, the final look of the roof and siding is generally well-regarded. The company's work on projects is noted for its visual appeal, with clients stating that the "roof and siding look good." This is a testament to the skill and expertise involved in the core construction work. For homeowners, knowing that the most critical part of the job—the actual roof installation—is done well provides a level of reassurance that is fundamental to any home renovation.
However, public reviews also highlight significant issues related to project management and customer service. As noted in customer feedback, experiences with the company have included a lack of professionalism, with examples such as blocking driveways and placing dumpsters in inconvenient locations despite requests to move them. One particularly concerning incident involved a crew member's unprofessional behavior towards a mail carrier. These are not isolated incidents, as a reviewer noted they had "the same experience" and had to agree "with the lack of professionalism posts." Furthermore, there were reported issues with fulfilling contractual agreements, such as requests for early payments and delays in completing promised follow-up tasks like re-installing outdoor TVs.
In addition to the service-related challenges, reviews also point to potential issues with the scope of work and attention to detail. One customer reported that a "fix" for a dryer vent left the system so damaged that an HVAC professional was required to repair it. Another issue was a poorly reinstalled Ring camera, which prevented the homeowner from charging it. These examples, alongside the reported lack of communication and follow-through, indicate that while the primary job of roof and siding installation may be completed to a good standard, the overall project management and auxiliary services may not meet a customer's expectations. This highlights the importance of thorough communication and clear expectations for all aspects of a project, not just the main task.
For potential clients in the Erie, PA, area, it is crucial to weigh all aspects of a contractor's service before making a decision. While the quality of the roof and siding work appears to be solid, the documented issues with professionalism, project communication, and attention to detail on other aspects of the job present a mixed picture. Homeowners should consider these factors and potentially discuss their expectations in detail with the company prior to signing a contract. A clear, written agreement that outlines every aspect of the project, including payment schedules, cleanup procedures, and the handling of ancillary tasks, would be a wise step to ensure a smoother experience. The company’s willingness to provide free estimates is a good starting point for this conversation, allowing customers to get a feel for their process and professionalism firsthand.

What is worth choosing
When it comes to a roofing or siding project in Erie, Pennsylvania, the decision on a contractor involves careful consideration of all available information. The choice of Elwell Construction is worth considering primarily for the quality of their core workmanship. Public reviews clearly state that the "roof and siding look good," indicating that the essential part of the job—the actual installation—is handled with competence. This is arguably the most critical aspect of any major home exterior project, as a well-installed roof is fundamental to a home's protection and long-term value. The company's experience with various services, from roof repair to the installation of architectural shingles and soffit, gives them the expertise to handle a wide range of needs.
However, it is equally important for potential customers to be aware of the documented customer service and project management issues. The reviews highlight instances of a lack of professionalism and follow-through on promised tasks, as well as difficulties with payment schedules. While the final product may be a "great job," the process of getting there may be challenging. Therefore, if you choose to work with Elwell Construction, it is highly recommended to establish a clear and detailed contract that specifies all aspects of the project, including a defined timeline for completion, payment schedules that are strictly adhered to, and specific instructions for site management and cleanup. Documenting all agreements in writing can help mitigate some of the reported issues.
In summary, Elwell Construction is a viable option for a homeowner in Erie looking for a contractor who can deliver a quality-looking roof and siding. Their services, which also include replacement windows and snow plowing, showcase a breadth of expertise tailored to the needs of the local community. The key to a successful partnership with this company appears to be in careful and upfront communication. By setting firm expectations and having a detailed contract, you can focus on the final, positive result of a well-done roof and siding, which a number of their customers have attested to. Their willingness to provide a free estimate is the perfect opportunity to have this important conversation and ensure a successful project from start to finish.

Elwell Construction Reviews
I have to agree with the lack of professionalism posts. I had the same experience. Many examples from blocking the driveway while chatting with each other, putting the dumpster in front of the neighbors house when I asked for it to be in front of mine. Asked them to move it, they said they would but then never did. One guy swore at my mail person and called her a effing B when she asked them politely not to park in front of the mailbox. The job itself was done well, but they also said there was some issue with the dryer vent and they had to “fix” it. It is so messed up even a dryer vent repair service can’t fix it and I have to call HVAC to repair. Then the guy who put my ring camera back up made it so I can’t charge it because I can’t pull the bottom panel out. We had a contract with payment schedules but JE kept asking for money sooner than we had to at least 3x. We felt bad and gave it to him but asked that he put our outside tvs back up because it was summer. He promised he would the next day and it was over a week. So if you can get past those issues, as I said, the roof and siding look good.

April 11 · Kim SeastoneAs others have stated, this company shows a lack of professionalism in that they show complete disregard for others. They completely blocked the road a block from my house and let two cars sit there while they chatted for literally 10 minutes. Turning around and going around the block was not a realistic option due to the narrowness of the street and the cars parked on either side. Even the consideration of driving your truck around the block to let traffic through would have shown some care for the people who live in the neighborhood. Alas, such human decency was beyond them

April 15 · Nate S.They worked on a neighbors roof and completely made it impossible to navigate our road. When asked to move from being parked in my grass the individual was rude and acted like I was asking too much, stated there was no “no parking” signs which was true but my front yard is not a parking spot. Not pleased with the unprofessional attitude after I stood and waited patiently for him to get of his phone.

December 01 · Jessica VegaMy experience with them was one of my worst to say the least, no respect at all for anybody but themselves, especially the owner Jason. They make shortcuts on work to get the job done faster, and they leave a huge mess after. Do not recommend for anyone going forward. Thanks but no thanks!
