Just because a roof looks nice does not mean it was done right!. Where do I begin? It is 13 years to the day since my roof was installed. Upon arrival to my house at 1:15 pm my roof was already completed and your guys were cleaning up my yard. The roof looked awesome and the guys were indulging in an ice cold 18 pack of bud lite in my driveway. Now I can see why the problems happened. A year later, I gutted and remodeled and insulated the upstairs bedrooms. I noticed a leak around the chimney upstairs and called your company to look. A younger employee arrived and looked and told me the light coming in is an illusion and refused to fix it. I ended up taring it myself and the leak stopped. I eventually noticed bubbling on the drywall on the kitchen ceiling and upstairs bedroom. I never knew that my roof had a slow leak for years . One year ago some shingles loosened and blew off on two separate occasions. I had it repaired and the contractor told me that problems will continue. Water came through the kitchen ceiling which is why first repair was made. Fast forward to our 2 recent wind events. Half of the shingles on the front of the house blew off from the first event. I had 2 contractors and an insurance adjuster at the house and was told it was the worst roof job they had ever seen. Nailed high and 1-2 nails instead of 4 and misses everywhere. Wind event # 2, the back half of the roof blew off. This time because of the incorrect flashing job around the chimney, my mortar on my chimney was disintegrating and the chimney had be torn down and replaced. I was also told that the ridge vent was installed incorrectly and the incorrect materials we're used. I am currently replacing all of the insulation upstairs and running a dehumidifier round the clock and the mold issue is another issue. Thanks a lot for your reliable employees because as far as I am concerned you destroyed my home. This came from the insurance adjuster and 2 contractors, "I don't know who did your roof but its horrible!" Thanks a lot Dunkle. I have so much damage to my home due to your company's lack of caring or skill. Don't hire these people if you value your property! - Rebecca Sherbondy

Dunkle & Sons Introduce

In the unforgiving climate of New York, where homes are subjected to heavy snowfalls, freezing temperatures, and powerful winds, a reliable roof is paramount. For homeowners in Buffalo and the surrounding areas, selecting a roofing contractor is a decision that directly impacts the safety and value of their property. While many companies promise quality and professionalism, it is crucial to look beyond a simple proposal and delve into the company's actual performance and reputation. Dunkle & Sons is a roofing contractor based in the Buffalo area, and to make an informed choice, potential clients should carefully consider all available information, including both positive and negative customer experiences, to understand the full scope of what they offer.

The process of getting a new roof or a significant repair is a major investment. Homeowners expect a professional service that is not only competent but also honest and respectful of their property. A trustworthy contractor should deliver on their promises, maintain clear communication, and address any issues that arise, both during and after the project. Public reviews and testimonials provide a window into a company's real-world practices, offering insights that a sales pitch cannot. In the case of Dunkle & Sons, the available feedback presents a complex and contrasting picture, highlighting the importance of due diligence before entering into any agreement.

Dunkle & Sons is located at 1588 Clinton St, Buffalo, NY 14206, USA. This address places the company within the heart of the Buffalo community, allowing them to serve a wide range of clients in the city and surrounding suburbs. A local presence is often beneficial, as it can indicate a deep understanding of local building codes, regional weather challenges, and community-specific needs. Being physically located within the area also provides a point of contact for clients and suppliers.

While a physical address provides a base of operations, the accessibility of a company is also defined by its communication and responsiveness. Since phone numbers were not provided in the original request, potential customers would need to research this information separately. It is a critical step in the hiring process to ensure that a contractor is easy to reach, especially for post-project concerns.

Based on the provided information, Dunkle & Sons is primarily a roofing contractor. Their services are described broadly, encompassing the fundamental aspects of a roofing business. These services include:

  • Roofing contractor: General services related to roofing for residential and potentially commercial properties.

Given the limited public data, it is recommended that potential clients engage in a detailed discussion with the company to understand the specifics of their service offerings. This includes clarifying the types of roofing materials they work with, their installation and repair processes, and their warranty policies. A thorough conversation is essential to ensure that their capabilities align with your specific project needs.

The provided customer reviews offer two starkly different perspectives on the features and highlights of Dunkle & Sons. One review is overwhelmingly positive, while the other details a severely negative experience.

The positive review highlights:

  • Great Job: The customer was pleased with the work, stating they did a "great job" on their roof.
  • On-Time Service: They were "on time" for the project, indicating good scheduling and project management.
  • Fair Price: The customer found the price to be "very fair."
  • Excellent Cleanup: A significant point of praise was the cleanup; the customer stated they "cleaned everything up so you did not even know they were there."
  • High Recommendation: The positive experience led the customer to "Highly recommend them for any roofing need."

In stark contrast, a detailed negative review from a long-term customer points to major issues:

  • Poor Workmanship: The customer claims the job was "the worst roof job they had ever seen," with shingles "nailed high and 1-2 nails instead of 4 and misses everywhere."
  • Subsequent Damage: The review details a long history of problems, including leaks, blown-off shingles, and even the "disintegration" of the chimney's mortar due to incorrect flashing.
  • Unprofessionalism: The customer recounts a story of the crew "indulging in an ice cold 18 pack of bud lite in my driveway" and an employee refusing to fix a leak, dismissing it as an "illusion."
  • Lack of Communication: The company allegedly refused to address the initial leak complaint, and the overall experience led to significant home damage.
  • Significant Financial and Property Loss: The homeowner faced costly repairs, including replacing insulation, running a dehumidifier for a mold issue, and having the chimney torn down and replaced.

Choosing a roofing contractor is a decision that requires careful consideration, and the provided reviews for Dunkle & Sons offer a textbook example of why. The presence of two entirely different experiences—one praising their work and price, the other detailing a catastrophic failure of craftsmanship and integrity—makes a clear recommendation difficult and highlights the importance of extensive personal vetting. The negative review, in particular, is a detailed account of a homeowner's nightmare. It alleges that poor initial workmanship, including high and insufficient nailing of shingles, incorrect flashing, and improper ridge vent installation, led to years of slow leaks, culminating in widespread home damage, mold, and a chimney that had to be torn down. These are not minor issues; they represent a fundamental failure to adhere to industry standards and a potential disregard for a homeowner's most valuable asset. The claim that the company's employees were drinking on the job and that a subsequent complaint was dismissed further points to a significant lack of professionalism.

On the other hand, the positive review paints a picture of a company that is timely, clean, and provides a good value. This discrepancy suggests that the quality of work may be inconsistent or that the experiences of customers can vary dramatically. For a homeowner in New York, where a strong roof is a necessity, this level of uncertainty is a major risk. A contractor should be consistently reliable, and the factual claims of poor workmanship and significant damage in the negative review serve as a powerful cautionary tale. They imply that hiring this company could be a gamble with high stakes. Therefore, it is essential for any potential client to ask for multiple references, verify licensing and insurance, and seek out a detailed contract that specifies every aspect of the job, from materials to cleanup and warranty. The lessons from the provided feedback are clear: a beautiful-looking roof is not enough; the work beneath the surface must be sound, and the company must be consistently professional and accountable.
