What Is Worth Choosing
When choosing a contractor for your home, especially for a significant investment like a new roof or solar system, it’s important to consider what makes a company a good fit. SmartRoof is an attractive choice for Pennsylvania residents for several reasons, but it's essential to consider all aspects, including feedback from previous clients.
Firstly, their dual specialization in both roofing and solar energy sets them apart. This allows for a streamlined process, as the same company can handle the structural integrity of your roof and the installation of a new energy system. This is particularly appealing for those looking to improve their home's energy efficiency. The GAF Timberline Solar system is a standout product they offer, as it seamlessly integrates solar technology into a traditional shingle roof, offering a clean, aesthetically pleasing look while generating clean energy.
Their GAF Master Elite® status is a significant indicator of their credibility. This certification is only given to a small percentage of roofers and demonstrates a commitment to professional training and manufacturer standards. For customers, this often means access to enhanced warranties and a higher level of assurance regarding the quality of the materials and workmanship.
SmartRoof also prides itself on customer service and project management. They offer a range of services from free inspections and estimates to working with insurance companies on storm restoration claims. This comprehensive approach is designed to reduce the stress on the homeowner. However, it is also important for customers to be proactive and engaged throughout the process to ensure all expectations are met. As with any large project, maintaining open communication with the project manager and on-site crew is a key factor in a successful outcome.
While most customer reviews are positive, some have noted challenges with communication and project execution on larger, more complex jobs. For example, some clients have reported issues with workmanship on projects involving multiple components like siding and gutters, requiring follow-up visits to correct problems. There have also been instances of miscommunication regarding the financial benefits of solar, such as tax credits, which underscores the importance of customers consulting with their own financial advisors.
Overall, SmartRoof offers a valuable service proposition for those in Pennsylvania seeking to combine traditional roofing needs with a modern, sustainable energy solution. Their established presence, specialized GAF certifications, and focus on integrated projects make them a notable option in the region. By doing your due diligence and staying engaged throughout your project, you can make the most of their expertise and capabilities.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1It has taken me some time to sit and digest the good and bad. Work done was Oct-Nov of 2024. They replaced our roof, siding, gutters, soffits and facia. Do I want to slander a company and ruin them, no. But do I recommend their services? No way, and want to warn others about the issues I had. The roof could be considered exceptable (maybe), but the siding, soffits and facia was a complete and utter nightmare. I was essentially the project manager, and had to keep drawing attention to what was wrong and unacceptable. They would half way fix the problem, I'd ask why this is considered fixed and they'd make excuses why it was okay. The actual project manager was condescending, dismissive and did not follow-up on requests. Workmanship was so sloppy! I think most of the workers were in training or didn't know exactly what they were doing, and were not being supervised. They did keep coming back to "try" to correct what I asked, but honestly, it should have been a new team to do the work (which I requested and escalated from the start and they did not). I gave 2 stars because some of the people during the process were trying to be helpful, but ultimately I am extremely displeased with the quality and the hassle of the whole project. The wrong type of siding (dutchlap, not clapboard) was ordered, wrong color on the facia. They used wrong sized opening for the radon fan vent, it stopped working, so instead of replacing the pipe they cut off the top. Debris then fell down into the fan and was clunking. They didn't know how to fix it, so I problem solved it for them. Gaps in the facia, miscuts, nail divots, caulking wasn't smoothed over, and general horrible workmanship. The number of stories and issues with this project are endless. I'd have them keep coming back to fix things, but the problems were ultimately from top to bottom. It just needed all to be redone, which obviously wasn't an option for the company. They came back probably over 10 times to try to fix some of the issues, but none of them should have happened if they were skilled at siding. I thought they were going to ditch the project at some point and leave us on the hook for the cost, but they didn't (1/2 star given). I just hope that our house holds up in all of these storms we've been having, and that it doesn't get overcome with pests.
June 29 · Valerie HookWhile we are satisfied with the installation and customer service from SmartRoof, there were a few key miscommunications that impacted our experience.Firstly, our sales representative informed us that we would receive a 30% tax credit on the cost of our solar panels when we filed our taxes. Based on this information, we expected a substantial refund. However, after consulting with our accountant, we learned that the tax credit is based on income and taxes paid, meaning that while we are entitled to the full 30%, it will take several years to receive the full benefit. It would have been helpful if the sales team had explained this more clearly.Additionally, one of the installers mentioned that our solar panels would produce 10% more energy than we consume. Unfortunately, over a year of operation, our energy consumption has consistently exceeded the energy produced by the panels, which is disappointing. That said, SmartRoof's customer service is excellent. Whenever there was an issue with the panels not communicating, they were quick to respond and resolve the problem. In summary, while the installation and service were generally good, better training for their sales representatives would help ensure customers have more realistic expectations and avoid confusion down the line.
August 19 · Kara WhitfieldDisappointed with Project ExecutionMy experience with SmartRoof started off on a positive note. The initial conversations were professional, and the setup phase went smoothly. Everything was clearly explained, and I felt confident moving forward with the project. However, once the actual work began, things took a different turn. Communication became a major issue. My project supervisor, Jon, provided limited communication, and I had trouble getting clear answers about install dates, job expectations, or any day to day expectations once the project was underway. This lack of consistent communication made it hard to know where things stood or what to expect next. When the installation crew arrived, they were polite but unable to communicate effectively. This made it challenging to ask questions or get any on-site updates about what was happening or if anything had changed from the original plan.Unfortunately, the final result didn’t match what had been discussed at the beginning of the process, the documentation I was provided, nor the conversation I had with their regional manager prior to the start of the project. I tried to get clarification on why things were different, but I never received a clear explanation. That was especially disappointing, as I had hoped that any concerns would at least be addressed or acknowledged. While I appreciated the strong start, the overall experience left me feeling dissatisfied. I had higher expectations based on how things began, and it was unfortunate to see that level of care and communication fall off during the most important parts of the process.
July 02 · castine allmondSmart Roof’s team are professionals. Our job was material. Large and varied roof, 11 skylights, facia, gutters and downspouts. Smart Roof’s management of the teams and various projects was top shelf. When I raised an issue it was timely addressed. The job site was kept clean and the work was planned and conducted in a timely manner.
August 01 · Mark RushInitially, I was not happy with the some of the work ,however, Nathan Jerge and Jon NytesDid listen to our concerns regarding several things on the roof that needed fixed as I did have someone independent come look at it. Both Nathan and Jon went out of their way to make sure things were correct, it took some time, but I am very happy ,every time I had a problem they listened to me. They never tried to put me off on anything. they both were so very professional and extremely nice! I must say they do a great job in representing Smart Roof! I really can't thank them enough!
