Builder Boy Introduce
If you're a California resident embarking on a home improvement project, finding the right general contractor is a critical step. From a minor renovation to a complete custom build, a good contractor serves as the central point of contact, managing the project's many moving parts to ensure everything runs smoothly. In Long Beach, California, one name you might come across is Builder Boy, a local company that offers a wide array of general contracting services for both residential and commercial projects.
A general contractor, as defined by the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB), is a contractor whose principal business is in connection with any structure built, being built, or to be built, for the support, shelter, and enclosure of people. This means they are licensed to manage projects that involve more than two unrelated building trades or crafts. In California, a general contractor must meet strict eligibility requirements, including a minimum of four years of experience, passing a two-part exam, and holding a surety bond and workers’ compensation insurance. They are also required by law to provide a written contract for any job over $500, which must include specific provisions to protect the consumer.
Builder Boy positions itself as a full-service design-and-build contractor, aiming to streamline the construction process for its clients in Southern California. The company emphasizes its over twenty years of experience in the industry, stating that it only uses skilled technicians with a minimum of five years of experience. They note that a well-planned project includes leadership, communication, and direction from their project managers and employees. While the company highlights a commitment to organization, efficiency, and communication, it's worth noting that customer reviews have, at times, pointed to challenges in these very areas. This underscores the importance of a detailed, written contract and clear communication throughout any project to ensure expectations are aligned.
The company also has a physical presence in the community, with a local office and, according to its website, a kitchen and bath showroom. This can be a valuable resource for clients who want to see material samples and design options in person. While the company markets itself as a provider of a "stress-free way to do any renovating," it's always wise for a consumer to conduct their own thorough research. This includes verifying the contractor's license with the CSLB, checking for any public complaints or legal actions, and speaking with past clients to get a comprehensive understanding of their experience.
For California residents, understanding the regulations governing general contractors is key to a successful project. The CSLB website is an invaluable tool for this, allowing you to check a contractor's license status and see if any disciplinary actions have been taken against them. It's a consumer's best practice to never pay more than the legal down payment limit (which is $1,000 or 10% of the contract price, whichever is less) and to avoid making payments for work that has not yet been completed. These precautions, combined with a clear and detailed contract, can help protect you from potential issues and ensure your project stays on track.

Builder Boy Reviews

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I sincerely apologize to any business that has had issues with BuilderBoy because they agreed to do a project before seeing this delayed review. I own a business in a leasehold. Our renovation included new flooring, lighting, cabinetry, and construction of some new rooms. The project was a nightmare. I have attached a few photos of the workmanship. Sink not balanced, repeated bubbling up of the laminate, several cabinets had no holes for shelving, peeling of baseboards EVERYWHERE, incomplete painting, electrical outlets not installed correctly, very bad (unsafe) installation of countertops (see images). I also am researching whether certain aspects of the project where even properly completely as several parts of the HVAC were not even installed to the grids.Other clients, contractors, and another HVAC expert have commented on the quality of the work. The HVAC representative literally called it negligent as an intake was literally taking air from the ATTIC and not the inside of the building.Jereme or any other BuilderBoy representative is welcome to contact me. Stay away from this contractor. I'm a business. See the images. Do you want this work in your home?
May 22 · HB Pet HospitalGood workers is about all I can say.Absolutely terrible, I mean the worst communication between the workers and whoever it is that was in charge.Workers would show up, and ask me what needs to be done. Then they would have to call the office, so the guys would just be standing around waiting to find out what they need to do.Builder Boy did not supply emails that showed detailed work orders, so there was no real paper trail, it was pretty much just word of mouth, and when they were done with one thing, I would receive a statement to pay.Builder Boy was also absolutely, the worst at returning calls.I asked for all the main workers phone numbers and would call the workers direct to find out what was going on, because Builder Boys office never would return phone calls.I literally would have to call 3 to 4 times and leave a message with the desk person before someone would return my call.Builder Boy never finished the job fully, and it took so long by the time I had called and communicated with someone they said, "Oh, we finished your job", and then they wanted me to send a list and pictures so they could give me a new quote, like it was a new project.I was stupid, I paid full amount before the job was completed.Builder Boy only applied one coat of paint to gutters and wood doors and window frames, and said they would do a second coat, but it took so long it never happened.I still have stucco on windows that they never cleaned off and the windows are so high up, I will have to hire someone with a 40 foot ladder to clean. Not a pleasant experience.
May 23 · andre X stockerBuilder Boy did a full remodel for us from the kitchen, to both bathrooms, family room and living room. We could not be more happy with the results and the process. They were very communicative throughout the entire process and always responded to our questions. They gave us guidance when it was needed and took our input and suggestions and gave us even better ideas then we started with. The whole crew was extremely friendly and as unobtrusive as can be in a full house remodel. My wife is very picky when it comes to her home and she could not have been happier with the end result. SHe wanted a specific ceiling treatment and Jereme and his crew actually recommended a different treatment which ended up being better than what we intially requested. Cannot recommend them highly enough. No matter what the size of your job or your needs Builder Boy will get it done well, in a timely manner and at a good price. I would use them again in a heartbeat and recommend them to anyone looking to remodel.
March 29 · Derek VosskuhlerI called no less then 3 stucco companies to bid on the smooth stucco job at my property. They all seemed good, but I couldn't get past the level of perfection and craftsmanship that I'd seen on Builder Boy's website of their stucco work. I hired them for a smooth stucco job at my property and they exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend them for stucco work.
May 03 · Temi AkinyemiGreat team, great work force. Hired for stucco replacement, job was done within a week, very easy to work with.
